China's Largest Realism Tattoo Mentorship Lineage

Lei Shi Tattoo (雷势文化) has trained more than 3,000 tattoo artists over two decades — a scale and continuity that makes it the largest realism tattoo mentorship in Chinese tattoo culture. The program is led directly by Wang Lei (王雷), an internationally recognized photorealism tattoo artist and convention judge in five countries: the United States, Singapore, Australia, Thailand, and Canada.

Why This Program Is Different

Most tattoo "courses" in China teach basic technique over a few weeks and send students out. Lei Shi does the opposite: mentorship is small-group, multi-stage, and lineage-based. Students work alongside senior Lei Shi artists (Jin Hai 金海, Dongshan 鸫山, Han Yan 寒焰 and others) — the same team that staffs the Beijing headquarters and the 17 Lei Shi studios across China.

The most direct proof of the lineage: many of the studio heads across the Lei Shi national network — Chengdu, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Kunming, Chongqing and beyond — came through this mentorship. The training isn't theoretical: it's how the brand's own next generation is built.

• Anatomy, placement, and composition — why the same design works on one body and fails on another.
• Machine, ink, and hygiene — equipment tuning, ink selection, international-standard cross-contamination protocols.
• Client consultation and business workflow — how a realism artist takes a brief, scopes a project, and manages multi-session commitments.

Who This Is For

The Lei Shi mentorship is for serious aspiring tattoo artists committed to the realism track. We prioritize applicants with:

• Solid foundation drawing or painting skill (charcoal, pencil, digital — any medium demonstrating value and form).
• Genuine commitment to tattooing as a long-term craft, not a side hustle.
• Willingness to relocate to Beijing for the residency portion of the program.
• Emotional stability, hygiene discipline, and respect for the skin and the client.

Prior tattoo experience is welcome but not required. Wang Lei personally reviews every application.
